Where Gemina fits.

Any assay that relies on capture molecules on a surface or particle can benefit from controlling how they sit. GemChem Binders orient antibodies and other capture molecules on gold, cellulose, nitrocellulose, polystyrene and glass. GemGold adds ultra uniform gold nanospheres and streptavidin and Protein G conjugates to carry the signal.

By assay format

Lateral flow assays

GemGold supplies the signal particle and oriented conjugates; GemChem cellulose binders offer binding chemistry for NC test strips, cellulose test strips, and dyed cellulose microparticles. Designed to help developers improve signal, reduce antibody use and simplify & streamline test prototyping and manufacturing.

Plate-based immunoassays

GemChem polystyrene-binding streptavidin attaches biotinylated capture molecules to standard polystyrene microplates in a controlled orientation, instead of by passive adsorption. Designed to help developers get more active capture molecule per well, use less antibody and skip chemical coupling steps.

Bead and particle assays

GemChem binders attach capture molecules to cellulose, silica and polystyrene beads in a controlled orientation, without covalent coupling. Designed to help developers capture more target per bead and use less antibody in bead-based immunoassays and sample preparation.

Biosensors

GemChem gold-binding streptavidin and Protein G attach capture molecules directly to gold sensor surfaces, such as surface plasmon resonance chips and gold electrodes, in a controlled orientation. GemGold conjugates bring the same oriented attachment to gold nanoparticle labels. Designed to help developers build sensor surfaces that are consistent from chip to chip, without covalent conjugation.

Glass and microarray surfaces

GemChem glass-binding streptavidin attaches biotinylated capture molecules directly to glass slides, glass supports and silica surfaces in a controlled orientation. Designed for microarrays and other glass-based assays, without silane coupling steps.

By challenge

  • Increasing odds of hitting sensitive standards during test development.
  • Getting more signal from a fixed antibody pair.
  • Reducing antibody use and cost of goods.
  • Reducing reliance on nitrocellulose.
  • Using capture molecules other than antibodies.

Demonstration assays

Gemina uses its own and partner assays to show how its products perform, including:

Gemina Legio X™ COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test has been developed under ISO 13485 and awarded an EU CE Mark under the EU’s In Vitro Diagnostic Medical Device Directive (“IVDD”).

Demonstrated Gemina Antibody Immobilization Platform allows for the reduction of test line antibody requirements by 75% vs. standard physisorption, without impacting limit-of-detection.

A COVID-19 lateral flow prototype test on cellulose, built with GemChem cellulose-binding streptavidin and presented at AACC 2023.
